Swanage
The town of Swanage is in the very midst of the Jurassic Coast and is now an important part of the World Heritage Site; Swanage sits within the Isle of Purbeck, nestled in the very heart of the Dorset countryside. It is easy to imagine that you have walked back in time when you arrive in Swanage; days of ginger pop and daily adventures for the Famous Five are as alive today as they were when Enid Blyton first wrote about them.
From strolling along Ballard Down, to looking out over the magnificent Old Harry Rocks, to investigating the environment at Studland or Durlston, or by taking the steam train to Corfe Castle and stepping back into the days of the Norman people ~ there is just so much fun to be had. You can almost hear the ghosts of long ago Pirates and Smugglers as they sailed their ships into harbour.
Imagine walking along the beach or over the top of the downs and finding a piece of history! Fossils are regularly found in and around Swanage ~ don't forget, you are, after all, in the heart of the Jurassic Coast. Dinosaurs once walked here, how exciting is that? Maybe you'll find a fossil to take home as a reminder of your visit.
Swanage is a place for adventure; you can discover the history and mystery of ancient Purbeck ~ from Stone-Age Long Barrows to Smugglers Tales. Learn how the land and it's people are linked.
There's just so much to see and learn about, you'll want to stay longer, or come back again next year!
