SELF CONFIDENT APPROACH TO TRANSITION BETWEEN SCHOOLS

Transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 is the process of moving from primary to secondary school. It represents a crucially important stage in children’s education. Secondary school represents, for most pupils, a very different environment from the one they have experienced in primary school. Administration, pastoral care and teaching and learning are all organised differently from primary school, largely because a secondary school is much bigger and has a greater number of pupils and staff. Our venues provide a microcosm of the experience where the focus is completely on recognising and adapting to change. The Transition Programme aims to make children feel supported, safe, happy and confident.

PROGRAMME MODULES

  • Orientation to ensure the emotional and physical well being of each child.
  • All Change : Environmental Games which introduce the concept of change in a fun way.
  • Change Challenge : in an environment outside the classroom experience, pupils are presented with Change Scenario where they are encouraged to consider their own and others' feelings, and the consequences of their actions, how to support each other and how to deal with unfamiliar situations.
  • Personal Responsibility : learning to organise themselves and take responsibility for themselves.
  • Review and Reflection : throughout the programme the children are encouraged to develop observation and self awareness. This culminates in a Campfire Reflection accompanied by toasted marshmallows.
